As the Enohia Itim Community, Afikpo, Ebonyi State gears for election, there appears to be uneasy calm following the emergence of aspirants in the Town Union and Youth Council election billed for August 2024.
The position of the community’s youth president zoned to Ezi-Egwu village, home of the fast-rising philanthropist, Engr Chief Ibru Ogbonna Nwachi has left many wondering who has the endorsement of the kingmaker.
While many keep besieging his home, it is rumoured in some quarters he has a candidate in the election.
Allaying the fears, and dispelling the rumours, Chief Nwachi said he has no candidate, neither is he interested in any election of any sought.
In a release made available to journalists by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Collins Azu, the oil magnate explained that “the development template of Enohia Itim and his irrevocable commitments to human capital development” underlies his sole interest.
The statement reads:
“It has been heard in some quarters that some aspirants angling for the position of Town Union President and President of the Enohia Itim Youth Council are said to have been imprimatur by our leader—thus creating undue tension.
“This is not only nauseating, but worrisome and thus becomes imperative to diffuse this speculation for the overall interest of the community.
“The truth is the speculation exists in the wild imagination of the naysayers and falls flat in the light of reality given the fact that our leader— Chief Ibru has no candidate and interest in the 2024 general election of Enohia Itim Union and Enohia Itim Youth Council.
“However, the interest and candidate of our leader are in the development template of Enohia Itim Community and the candidacy of one whose programs and policies do not clash or conflict with the community, given the provision of a rancour-free, and transparent atmosphere deliberately created by the actors in the electoral process in their determination to ensure credibility against a mediocre and a loafer emerge in the contest.
“The leader has no candidate neither has he endorsed anyone.
Whoever wins, has the support of our leader”.
